Pratt & Moody return with a new 7” single on Timmion Records, pairing β€œHard Way To Live” with β€œYou Bring Me Joy” – two deep diving soul cuts that reaffirm their place among the true pioneers of the modern sweet & beat soul revival. Written and recorded together with Timmion’s trusted house band Cold Diamond & Mink, the single continues a lineage that has consistently blurred the line between contemporary songwriting and timeless soul aesthetics. The A-side, β€œHard Way To Live,” finds Pratt & Moody firmly in their beat ballad lane. Built on a warm, funky foundation, the song balances emotional weight with melodic lift, as its chorus opens into crossover soul-pop territory. Lyrically, it wrestles with life-earned scars and the quiet difficulty of letting go of pain that they cause – the feeling of keeping on running even after you’ve spent the last of what you had. ”On the flip, β€œYou Bring Me Joy” unfolds like a slow-burning David Lynch scene, its dramatic crawl evoking soundtrack soul before bursting into a Stax-era Staple Singers inspired chorus. Tremolosoaked guitar lines nod to classic dark surf music, while Emilia Sisco’s gospel-tinged background vocals nod to Mavis Staples, elevating the track into full emotional bloom. Together, these two songs offer a vivid preview of Pratt & Moody’s upcoming album – a deeper plunge into soulful storytelling, their tried and tested lowrider soul chops, and modern clarity, soon to follow on Timmion Records.

Two of the acts boldly leading Texas music into the future have now delivered a second chapter of their groundbreaking collaboration, further extending the region’s sonic possibilities. Singer/songwriter Leon Bridges, from Ft. Worth, and trailblazing Houston trio Khruangbin have joined forces for the Texas Moon EP, a follow-up to 2020’s acclaimed Texas Sun project. While the five new songs are clearly a continuation of the first EP, they also have an identity all their ownβ€”Bridges calls it β€œmore introspective,” while Khruangbin bassist Laura Lee says it β€œfeels more night time.” When Texas Sun was released, AllMusic called the results β€œintoxicating” and Paste noted that β€œtheir talents and character go together so well.” Now comes the next stageβ€”a set of songs that touch on themes like love, faith, and death while exploring new dimensions of inventive, hypnotic grooves. Significantly, both parties’ musical directions were clearly affected by their time working together. Khruangbin’s most recent album, Mordechai, moved their own vocals much further forward, a change they readily admit was a direct result of working with Bridges. Meanwhile, since these recordings began, in addition to his genre-defying album Gold-Digger’s Sound, Bridges has put out several other challenging, shared tracks, including work with John Mayer, Lucky Daye, and Jazmine Sullivan. Texas Moon represents a genuine and rare achievement, with two of the most respected and innovative acts of their generation truly collaborating to create something new. β€œAs far as an essentially instrumental band, these guys are kind of the top for me,” says Bridges. β€œI’m honored to have been the first singer that they’ve incorporated in their music.” β€œIt feels really special to me,” says Lee. β€œIt’s not Khruangbin, it’s not Leon, it’s this world we created together.”

Eternal Almost is a collaborative album by Japanese musician Tomo Katsurada and Estonian composer Misha Panfilov. Born from the simple joy of songwriting and creative exchange, Tomo and Misha had long admired each other’s music from afar. When the opportunity to collaborate finally arrived, it felt completely natural, and by the time the album was finished, it almost seemed as though the two had known each other always. United by a shared sense of humour and musical curiosity, Tomo and Misha poured a raw, honest energy into these songs β€” one shaped by their intuitive rapport. In an increasingly artificial world, Eternal Almost subtly celebrates the qualities that make music feel most alive. Amid the weight of our current times, the pair hope this album brings listeners a sense of lightness, joy, and of courseβ€”a gently surreal journey from beginning to end.

Jeb Loy Nichols is at it again with a brand new 7" that pairs two sides of his soulful storytelling. On the A-side, the exclusive cut β€œDo The Get Together” makes its debut – a slow-burning southern soul dancer that gently calls people closer, both on the dancefloor and beyond it. With warmth, patience, and a steady groove, Nichols invites connection without force, offering a quiet reminder that togetherness can still feel natural and unpretentious. Driven by Cold Diamond & Mink’s deep-pocket rhythm and understated analog textures, β€œDo The Get Together” unfolds with ease. The groove never rushes, allowing Jeb’s voice to guide the message with soft authority and lived-in wisdom. It’s a song that feels tailor-made for late-night spins, where movement and meaning find common ground. On the flip, β€œFirst Night Away From Home” brings listeners back to the opening chapter of Nichols’ latest album This House is Empty Without You. Warm, melodic, and intimate, the track captures that mix of vulnerability and quiet resolve that defines Jeb’s songwriting. Together, these two sides form a perfect 7" pairing, pressed for those who value soul that speaks gently but stays with you.

Big Crown Records is proud to present the sophomore full-length from Les ImprimΓ©s, Fading Forward. Spearheaded by self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer Morten Martens, the album explores mortality, escapism, and a myriad of experiences associated with love.

Martens made a tremendous impression with his highly acclaimed 2023 debut RΓͺverie and has since cultivated a diehard fanbase whose demographics are as wide-ranging as the influences that shape his music. He mixes tones from ’60s and ’70s soul with arrangement nods to doo-wop records, takes drum energy from hip-hop, and covers the whole thing with vocal stylings drawn from ’90s and 2000s alternative. But it is Martens’ lyrics, emotion, and delivery that truly bring everything together and help him stand out from his peers. There’s an infectiousness and pop sensibility in the writing, executed with the utmost class and taste, giving Les ImprimΓ©s the rare quality of immediate attraction that only deepens with repeat listens.

Hailing from Kristiansand, Norway, Martens plays nearly every instrument on Fading Forward, produces and arranges the album, and of course sings. β€œIt’s soul music, but I don’t exactly have the soul voice,” Morten explains humbly. β€œBut I do it my own way, in a way that’s mine.”

Album opener β€œYou & I” is Morten’s homage to his partner, who sticks it out β€œthrough the chaos and the blunders” with him. Punchy drums and cascading pianos make this one a proper two-stepper and an anthem for those lucky enough to find someone who understands them and helps them through the parts of life where they need it most. β€œAgain & Again” slows the pace and deals with the heavier side of love and life, as Martens professes his resilience through the mishaps, heartbreak, and letdowns of love affairs gone wrong. β€œUntainted Love” brings the sweet side of new love center stage with a tune that plays on the title of the Gloria Jones classic. β€œGet Lost” leans into the metaphysical with an invitation to leave reality behind and spend time with Les ImprimΓ©s, where there’s room to dream. β€œOnly Love” is built over a gritty drum break, with a chorus that is simple yet profound, and an arrangement that gives it the energy of a mantra. The album turns to the dancefloor on β€œWith You,” an uptempo, uplifting tune about a fleeting encounter that leaves you pining for more. Martens longs for her, but joyfullyβ€”as if simply remembering that such a connection is possible is exactly what he needed. Martens is joined by guest vocalist Ama Li on β€œMiss the Days,” a slow-burning ballad that reckons back to simpler times when love felt easier. Fading Forward closes on a wholly somber note with β€œParadise,” a tune that wishes freedom and peace to a friend who passed away.

In the small town of Kristiansand, Norway, there is a huge talent who spent much of his life laying low and playing in the background. Signing to New York’s Big Crown Records inspired Morten Martens to begin sharing his own music. The response to his debut RΓͺverie pushed him out of the studio and onto the stage, serving as inspiration to push his artistry to new heightsβ€”heights that are fully realized on Fading Forward.

Matthew Herbert and drummer/ vocalist Momoko Gill announce the release of new album Clay via Strut in June 2025. A soulful, elastic collaboration, Clay treads nimbly between the dancefloor and the more introspective moods of the early hours, both reminiscent of Herbert’s iconic album Around The House while taking off in a compelling new direction. Agile and open-hearted, Clay is a thrilling, sonically adventurous record from two of the UK’s most forward-thinking artists.

Orbiting around Herbert’s fleet-footed productions and the ingenuity of Momoko Gill’s dexterous, melodic writing, Clay is at once stripped-back and rhythmically complex, drawing on a variety of found sources - from japanese kotos to basketballs - to give the sound an unmistakably organic feel.

Bringing together original sampling techniques, live improvisation and lush, expansive arrangements, Clay is lifted into higher realms by Momoko Gill’s intimate vocal performance, soaring wide-winged across the album’s eleven tracks, whether on the euphoric melancholia of β€˜Mowing’ or the emotive duet β€˜Heart’.

Clay follows the 2024 release of debut collaboration β€˜Fallen’ and Momoko Gill’s remix of Matthew Herbert’s β€˜The Horse Is Here’. And yet, although Clay marks the first full-length release between Herbert and Gill, the duo’s shared passion for pushing sonic boundaries has played a crucial role in their respective careers to date.

For Herbert that means treating the world as an instrument, making music using everything from the sounds of a bomb exploding in Libya, a horse skeleton, a tank driving over a meal made for Tony Blair, 20,000 dogs, 245 shops and countless other noises. His album ONE PIG – which follows the lifecycle of a pig from birth to plate – remains one of the most ambitious and provocative pieces of electronic music this century, cementing his reputation as an utterly singular composer, artist and producer.

Self-taught in drums and composition, Momoko Gill’s journey to Clay has been similarly experimental – cutting her teeth in South London’s multi-disciplinary music scene, embracing new challenges and collaborating with the likes of Coby Sey, Tirzah and Alabaster DePlume. Although drums and vocals are her mediums of choice, Gill’s multi-instrumental talents were on full show on 2024’s EP as An Alien Called Harmony with poet/rapper Nadeem Din-Gabisi, and she continues to hone her style in the frictions between genres.

With an intuitive feel for one another’s sound, Clay is a meeting of musical minds that resonates far beyond the sum of its parts - a startlingly fresh, beautifully conceived record from two artists who sound like they’ve been playing together all their lives.

Kendra Morris's 2025 board-game concept album 'Next' quickly became a fan favorite, toping several year-end lists and cementing it's place as one of the most creative album campaigns. Now six months after the record's release, Karma Chief is thrilled you bring you a 45 featuring a fan-favorite tune from the record and a brand new dub remix. 'Flat Tire,' the album's announcement track, tips its hat to old reggae from the 60’s. Inspired by the records Kendra's parents would bring home from trips to Jamaica, the tune brings you a catchy, bouncy chorus you just can't get out of your head. 'Flat Tire' was recorded with all vintage gear and tracked through a Tascam 388. It also features Ray Jacildo, collaborator of The Black Keys, Yola, on piano and organ. The B-side of the 45 features a dub remix of 'Flat Tire' by the one & only Paul Cherry. "As soon as we recorded 'Flat Tire,' Terry and I agreed immediately that there should be some sort of dub remix… the tune was made for that," Kendra says. Terry threw out Cherry's name and they agreed he was the man for the job. The final product perfectly echoes classic late 60s dub by building from of the basics of the song...stripping the production down further, playing up the reverb and adding echoes, pauses and delays in all the right places.

Ever wonder how many amazing unreleased or unheard acetates currently sit in total obscurity, on a shelf somewhere, with decades’ worth of dust, unreleased, or perhaps even completely unheard? Tempting as it is to get stuck feeling helpless about the sad and futile reality of forgotten recordings, it does allow each unshelved release to feel like a massive geological victory. Little Ann’s Deep Shadows is an example of such a victory to savor. American soul singer Little Ann, born Ann Bridgeforth, was originally from Chicago, but moved to Detroit with her family, where she sang in church, inspired by local gospel legend Aretha Franklin. She recorded an album’s worth of songs between 1967 and 1969, primarily with Detroit musician/producer Dave Hamilton, although, save for one song, the work never saw the light of day. Interestingly, the only released song was not β€œDeep Shadows,” which is now her most known, and perhaps the greatest example of the emotive power of her voice. Little Ann wrote in a letter to her mother, β€œIf it doesn’t work out, I tried.” Cut to the 1980’s: two British soul collectors, Gilly and Andy Taylor, are digging through Hamilton’s personal music archive and find a box of reels labeled β€œThe Possible Little Ann Album,” and it’s love at first listen. The dust is wiped off, and the music begins making the rounds, trickling out into the world by way of the British northern soul DJ scene, various compilations, covers, and samples, garnering enough attention that Little Ann was able to experience her own resurrection, and even perform one UK show, before her passing in 2003. Timmion Records’ 2009 compilation Deep Shadows was the first release to assemble all of her demos into one cohesive album, as originally intended in the 60’s. Little Ann co-wrote all but two songs on the album, which you can feel as you listen; there is a heavy sense of intimacy in her recordings, like being launched through a tunnel straight into the deep center of her aching heart.

Renowned US-Dutch gospel-soul powerhouse Michelle David & The True-tones mark a bold new chapter with their forthcoming album, β€œSoul Woman”, out February 27, 2026 on Milan-based imprint Record Kicks. Building on the critical acclaim of 2024’s β€œBrothers & Sisters”, a record that held a mirror to the complexities of the world, the new LP β€œSoul Woman” turns inward β€” a deeply personal exploration of identity, healing, and spiritual resilience. β€œHow can I ask others to take time to reflect on their lives if I’m not doing the same myself?” Michelle David asks. That spirit of self-inquiry and renewal lies at the heart of β€œSoul Woman” β€” a record that embraces vulnerability while radiating strength. Musically, β€œSoul Woman” continues to refine the band’s signature blend of gospel fire, soul and vintage rhythm & blues, while drawing from a wider palette of influences. Echoes of Curtis Mayfield, Bobby Womack, and The Four Seasons pulse through the grooves, while the gospel fire of The Blind Boys of Alabama and the joyous uplift of Diana Ross & The Supremes lend the album both gravity and sparkle. At the center is Michelle David’s unmistakable voice β€” raw, warm, and filled with purpose β€” wrapped in rich, analog-driven arrangements from longtime collaborators Paul Willemsen (guitar, bass guitar), Onno Smit (guitar, bass guitar) and Bas Bouma (drums). Together, Michelle David & The True-tones stand tall at the forefront of the retro soul scene β€” blending timeless grooves with modern urgency, unshakable authenticity, and heartfelt spirit. A Voice Born in the Church, Honed on the Road. Born in New York and raised in the church, Michelle David began singing at just four years old and joined her first group, The Mission of Love, at five. Her powerhouse vocals took her around the globe, starring in acclaimed Broadway productions like Mama, The Sound of Motown, Glory of Gospel, and Mahalia, and recording with legends including Diana Ross and Michael Bolton β€” all before beginning her celebrated journey with The True-tones. Together, Michelle David & The True-tones have released seven critically acclaimed albums and lit up stages across Europe, from Pinkpop to North Sea Jazz and London Jazz Festival. Known for their electrifying live shows, the band has earned standing ovations from Spain to Scandinavia, appeared on major TV and radio platforms, and even performed at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Their recorded work has been equally praised: The Gospel Sessions earned an Edison Award nomination (the Dutch equivalent of a Grammy), while 2020’s Truth & Soul was named Album of the Year by Craig Charles’ BBC Radio 6 Music and Album of the Month by FIP (Radio France). Their most recent album, Brothers & Sisters (2024), marked their debut on Record Kicks and became a breakout release β€” celebrated by Rolling Stone France, KEXP, Jazzthing Magazine (Germany), De Volkskrant (Netherlands), and BBC 6 Music. A Testament to Soul’s Timeless Power With β€œSoul Woman”, Michelle David & The True-tones offer more than just a new record β€” it’s a musical testimony of resilience, a celebration of spiritual growth, and a reaffirmation of soul music’s ability to heal, connect, and inspire. At once rooted in classic traditions and blazing new trails, this is contemporary soul at its finest.

Emeralds, the sophomore long player from Parlor Greens, finds the trio serving up a beautifully curated sampler of what funky organ music can be. On Parlor Greens’ debut LP In Green We Dream, they announced their existence boldly to the welcoming arms of funky instrumental fans around the world. Now, two years later, they’re back to up the ante. Three true masters of their respective crafts: Tim Carman (Canyon Lights, formerly of GA-20) on drums, Jimmy James (True Loves) on guitar, and Adam Scone (Scone Cash Players, The Sugarman 3) on organ. Seasoned and soulful pros coming together to make infectiously funky instrumental jams.

Parlor Greens are truly in top form: tour tight and more confident than ever in who they are and where they’re going. The album’s opener, β€œEat Your Greens,” kicks the doors off with a Charles Earland-inspired four on the floor beat, with Jimmy and Scone driving the tune down the tracks like an overloaded freight train, it simply cannot be stopped. On β€œRed Dog,” the group channels the absolute heaviest shade of early R&B with Jimmy’s crunchy guitar paving the way for both he and Scone to take scorching solos. β€œLion’s Mane” shows a slightly more sophisticated side of the trio, with nods to one of Scone’s organ mentors, the incomparable Dr. Lonnie Smith. Not to be outdone by his bandmates, Tim Carman shows off why he plays the best shuffle this side of the Mississippi on β€œLetter To Brother Ben,” a gospel-tinged shuffler.

And while the results are stronger than ever, the mood of this second cooking session was much different. The first time these three met in Loveland at Colemine’s Portage Lounge studio was marked by a certain freshness. It was new, it was the first time they had all played together. It was exciting, it was unknown territory. The session for Emeralds weighed much heavier on all three members. All three dealing with personal tragedies in their individual lives, the session truly served as a genuine moment of joy for the group. Just three talented musicians, writing and playing music now as friends in a familiar environment. No moment is the weight of the session more obvious than with the album’s closer, β€œQueen Of My Heart,” a tune Jimmy wrote for his mother shortly after she passed away.

So with a heavy and soulful heart, Colemine Records is beyond proud to present the sophomore effort from three maestros. Parlor Greens presents…Emer

Released in 1973 on Motown’s label, Share My Love is a richly layered and deeply expressive record that captures Gloria Jones at a creative crossroads. After years working behind the scenes as a songwriter and session vocalist, penning material for The Tams, The Marvellettes, and others, Jones finally takes center stage with a collection that radiates confidence, vulnerability, and undeniable soul. Known to many for her original 1964 version of β€œTainted Love,” later immortalized by Soft Cell, Jones brought to Share My Love a seasoned understanding of both the heartbreak and hope that lie at the core of great soul music. More than just a product of its time, Share My Love feels like a declaration, a turning point where one of soul’s great, often-overlooked voices stepped into her own light. It remains a moving document of artistic self-assurance and one of the most heartfelt releases to emerge from Motown’s early ’70s era.
