Harold Budd - The Oak of the Golden Dreams (LP)
Harold Budd - The Oak of the Golden Dreams (LP)PAROLE
¥3,645

Harold Budd's 1970 work The Oak of the Golden Dreams, known as an important turning point in his early minimalist and ambient music, has been reissued by <PAROLE>! Recorded in real time at the California Institute of the Arts on the legendary Buchla modular synthesizer, the work represents Budd's early musical explorations. The title track, “The Oak of the Golden Dreams,” is an improvisational modal performance using the Buchla as an electric organ over an unchanging drone, an approach that resonates with the work of Terry Riley and La Monte Young and embodies the characteristics of early minimalism This approach resonates with the work of Terry Riley and La Monte Young, and embodies the characteristics of early minimalism. The Oak of the Golden Dreams is an important record of the early days of minimalism and an essential work for understanding Budd's musical evolution, and one that can be compared to his later work to explore his musical journey and influences more deeply.

Annie Hogan - Tongues In My Head (LP)
Annie Hogan - Tongues In My Head (LP)Downwards
¥4,414

Goth and synth-pop legend Annie Hogan yields a gorgeously unexpected new album of smouldering chamber dirges suffused with a damaged, downbeat energy that’s quite distinct from anything else in her five years of work with Regis’ Downwards label - RIYL Rowland S. Howard, Jonnine, Leonard Cohen, John Duncan, Leslie Winer, Mark Lanegan, The The. On ‘Tongues in My Head’ Hogan naturally slips into a style of eerie reverie that effortlessly steers her celebrated piano & keyboard chops into deeply woozy, swaying styles of downbeat songcraft. Recorded in mostly single-takes with Annie playing an array of instruments and just her recording engineer for company, the poised and bittersweet songs here betray a near half-century of close work alongside some of contemporary music’s greatest troubadours with a timeless grasp of haunting melody and elegant slow-burn arrangements. It clearly marks a switch from the atmospheric sorcery of much of her recent work, turning to intimate presentations of voice and wheezing electronics wreathed into a beautifully wilting bouquet. At a near deathly heart rate, Annie attends to her most gothic, romantic urges with a dose of heavy blooz that slowly colour proceedings. Stark drum machine backbones slowly measure the pace of a detuned, prepared piano iced with her steady but shivering vocal presence. It’s one to get wrapped right up inside, opening with wistfully cinematic keys, strings and a soulful shuffle reminiscent of Barry Adamson in ‘Alles int Veloren’, and keening ever so gently from the screwed chamber folk of ‘Deadly Night Shades’ to dwell on common obsessions in ‘Death Rituals’ with a northern gothic appeal shades away from Dickon Hinchcliffe’s Red Riding OST. It’s not hard to hear the pall of Nick Cave loom in the sustained low end keys of ‘Safe Hands’ (co-written with Karl O’Connor, who provides the lyrics), obscured by Annie’s coarse patina of bittersweet distortion, while closer ‘The Conjurer’ most subtly weaves her atmospheric alchemy into a sort of dusty modal dirge, where all her colours bleed into a blue-brown as deep as the Mersey, just beyond her studio. A quiet triumph.

Yorgos Stavridis - Solo Percussion (LP)Yorgos Stavridis - Solo Percussion (LP)
Yorgos Stavridis - Solo Percussion (LP)Heat Crimes
¥6,145

Athens-based percussionist and sound artist Yorgos Stavridis makes a stark, physical debut for Heat Crimes with Solo Percussion, a set of one-take improvisations that approach percussion as a field of friction between body, objects, space, and sound. Working with membranes, metals, found objects and feedback systems, Stavridis foregrounds timbre, texture and spatial presence, collapsing distinctions between instrument, environment and recording apparatus. Microphones and speakers are treated as unstable instruments in their own right, introducing opaqueness, resistance, and feedback into the performative chain. Scrapes, low-end pressure, brittle metallic chatter, and sudden bursts of resonance emerge through close bodily engagement with surfaces and materials, each piece documenting a specific configuration of objects, gestures, and acoustic conditions. Performed and recorded live, Solo Percussion captures sound in its most contingent state; situational, physical and irreducibly present. Eschewing narrative, pulse or formal development, the record sits squarely in Heat Crimes’ lineage of process-led, uncompromising sonic research, where listening becomes an active, tactile act and sound itself is the primary event.Eschewing narrative, pulse or formal development, the work reframes listening as a tactile encounter, foregrounding sound as contingent material rather than structured musical form.

あけぼの印 Akebonojirushi - Paradise Mambo (LP)
あけぼの印 Akebonojirushi - Paradise Mambo (LP)SPITTLE MADE IN JAPAN
¥4,269

Formed in Hakata before relocating to Tokyo in 1984, Akebonojirushi quickly established themselves as one of the most adventurous acts in Japan’s underground music scene. The six-piece band defied easy categorization, blending sharp-edged New Wave textures with the groove and freedom of Funk-Jazz, then distilling it all into daring, unpredictable Pop songs. Originally released in 1987 on the influential DIW label, Paradise Mambo captured the energy of a vibrant era when Japanese musicians were fearlessly expanding the boundaries of sound. Brimming with angular rhythms, infectious basslines, and a playful yet avant-garde spirit, the album remains a shining document of 80s Japanese postmodernism—both accessible and experimental, danceable yet completely uncompromising. Now reintroduced to a new generation of listeners, Paradise Mambo stands not only as a time capsule of the bubbling Tokyo music scene of the late 80s, but also as a timeless example of bold creativity. This reissue shines a spotlight on a band that deserves renewed recognition for their adventurous vision and genre-blurring artistry.

Veronique Chalot - A L'Entrée Du Temps Clair (LP)
Veronique Chalot - A L'Entrée Du Temps Clair (LP)Bonfire Records
¥4,187

Long out of print, few copies spotted of this late 70's dreamy folk album...Veronique Chalot was born in Normandy in the north of France, but it was in Paris that she first became interested in traditional French folk music. In 1974 she landed in Rome where she soon earned a small, but dedicated following. England may have its Jacqui McShee (Pentangle), but France and Italy have its Veronique Chalot. For the past three decades Veronique has dedicated herself to playing, recording and researching medieval, renaissance, and early folk music from France and Italy, helping to save these musical forms from total obscurity. A l'entree du temps clair, released in 1982 on the small Italian Materiali Sonori label, was recorded while Veronique was living and researching in Italy. Although it was only her second studio album, Veronique's immense talent and sensitivity was already extremely evident. Here she sings and plays classical guitar (as well as the dulcimer and the hurdy-gurdy), backed by five Italian musicians playing a number of traditional instruments, including bouzouki, bagpipes, crumhorn, bendhir and bodhran, making this album of early French traditional music an enjoyable discovery even nearly three decades after its release.

Complesso Gisteri - Mostra Collettiva (LP)
Complesso Gisteri - Mostra Collettiva (LP)Holy Basil Records
¥5,348

Mostra Collettiva by Complesso Gisteri—the elusive 1972 gem born from the inspired partnership of Alessandro Alessandroni and Oronzo De Filippi—returns to vinyl for the first time ever. Originally released in microscopic quantities and long considered a holy grail of Italian library music, the album has now been lovingly restored and reissued in its most faithful analog form.

Under the alias Complesso Gisteri, Alessandroni and De Filippi explored a warm, pastoral palette that distills everything collectors cherish about early-70s Italian soundtracks and library sessions. Alessandroni’s unmistakable guitar style—lyrical, shimmering, instantly evocative—sets the tone throughout, weaving effortlessly around De Filippi’s expressive keyboards, from rich piano passages to the crystalline touch of spinet and harpsichord, an emblematic signature of the era’s finest Italian productions. The duo enriches these intimate arrangements with flute flourishes and the ethereal vocal textures of Giulia De Mutiis, whose wordless melodies elevate several pieces into dreamy, almost cinematic vignettes. The compositions radiate joy and romanticism, painting images of pastoral calm, sun-dappled landscapes, and rustic Italian charm. A long-hidden treasure, rediscovered and made available to collectors and music lovers for the very first time.

Moin - You Never End (LP)Moin - You Never End (LP)
Moin - You Never End (LP)AD 93
¥4,794

You Never End is the third album from Moin (Valentina Magaletti, Tom Halstead and Joe Andrews) out via AD 93 on the 25th October.
This record marks Moin’s shift into a new phase with vocal collaborations across the album from Olan Monk, james K, Coby Sey and Sophia Al-Maria.

The album’s collaborators all have voices that are alluring in their own right whilst hard to pin down: from james K’s ethereal, reverb drenched vocals, Coby Sey’s words that bounce and echo across London’s concrete streets and Olan Monk’s emotive songwriting, while artist Sophie Al-Maria’s voice and thoughts are known to stretch across her multidisciplinary practice as an artist, filmmaker and writer. The unique mystique of each collaborator is maintained throughout the record while simultaneously opening Moin up to new possibilities, in a gentle shifting alchemy.

Continuing their enigmatic re-configuring of the traditional band, Moin use a mix of conventional and unique production and compositional techniques. Subtly re-framing the current conversation about what band in 2024 needs to be, Moin walk the line between what's reassuringly familiar and what's unsettling and inquisitive. You Never End is a more sensitive record in sentiment, it re-contextualises grunge, shoegaze and indie rock with a weirdly comforting melancholy while still sounding direct and alive.

The vocal collaborations bring the most articulate moments and lucid emotion while still remaining uniquely within Moin's established world. Alongside this, the record fine tunes the elements of electronic production that have always been a feature of the band's unique sound in a deeply subtle way. Elements are simpler and more direct, offering robust functional support as well as textural and emotional resonance. Together they show the potential for both practices to intertwine.

Anichy & Lyemn (12")
Anichy & Lyemn (12")FABRIQUE D’INSTRUMENTS
¥3,097

Anichy & Lyemn reduce electronic sound to patient, glowing essentials: slow harmonic rhythm, canons, repetitive phrases and gently shifting layers, across two unreleased remix pieces that treat minimalism less as a genre tag than a way of feeling time stretch and fold.Tip! Rather than chasing maximal impact, Anichy & Lyemn opens in a low glow, letting electronic minimalism breathe through slow harmonic rhythm, canons and looping cells, as layers slide over one another in patient, hypnotic shifts that prize focus and detail over spectacle. The opening track takes its cue from the glassy, urban side of minimalism - the world of long, bright arpeggios, additive patterns and quietly insistent pulse that once colonised loft spaces, galleries and, later, cinema screens. Here those ideas are rerouted through contemporary electronics: stacked keyboard figures become soft-synth constellations, their outlines blurred by filter movement and subtle modulation. As the canons unfold, each entry is processed differently so that the same phrase appears as a series of related but not identical voices. The effect is like watching a skyline through passing weather systems: the architecture remains, but its emotional charge keeps changing. The second piece turns toward the earthy, process-driven strain of minimalism that grew out of tape experiments, hand-played percussion and non-Western rhythmic thinking. Instead of directly echoing that history, Anichy & Lyemn translate it into a digital ritual of offsets and micro-shifts. Short electronic cells - clicks, muted mallet tones, distant pads - are set running in overlapping loops of slightly different lengths, so that the resulting pattern is never quite the same from one minute to the next. Phase-like relationships appear and dissolve; accents migrate; what began as a simple lattice of pulses gradually thickens into a dense but breathable web of sound. Underneath it all, the harmonic pace remains unhurried, each change arriving like a new room opened within the same building.Crucially, Anichy & Lyemn is not a technical exercise but an emotional one. By committing to repetition and restricted materials, invite listeners to tune into nuance: the way a delayed entry in the canon can feel like an echo of a thought, or how a tiny detuning between layers can introduce a note of unease.

Doctor House - Mix To Groove (LP)
Doctor House - Mix To Groove (LP)MONO HORIZON
¥3,872

Premier, remastered reissue of a legendary mid ‘90s kwaito classic, mirroring US hip house at a suppressed tempo and setting the cool pace and vibe for South African styles such as gqom and amapiano to follow. Doctor House is a key pioneer of the balmy kwaito sound, who established himself as a session player for Volcano, Senyaka and Obed Ngobeni in the ‘80s, before shifting to programming for La Viva and Jivaro, and coining his own sound, melding slow rap and treacly beats on a string of ‘Mix To Groove’ albums in the mid ‘90s. This first volume has since become a sought-after gem, packing 8 proper slow burners between the quaalude sway of ’Nkwesheng’ and relatively uptempo house banger ’Show Me Love’ riffing on a classic. Fair to say it’s all killer no filler for discerning kwaito fiends, with wicked FX and female vox on the cruise-mode gangster house of ‘Gunman’, fruitiest Korg M1 riffs in ’Sososo,’ and another slow-mo standout in the groggy ‘Nandos’, whose charmingly naïf vocal harmonies really hit the spot, as they also do on the hip-house nursery rhyme cadence of ‘Tlo Kwano’ Surefire ‘floor winners start to finish.

Isle of Jura is proud to present the first reissue of 1992 Digi Dub heater ‘Slow Down’ by Villette Holmes. Minami Deutsch/南ドイツ - Minami Deutsch (LP)Minami Deutsch/南ドイツ - Minami Deutsch (LP)
Minami Deutsch/南ドイツ - Minami Deutsch (LP)Guruguru Brain
¥5,261
Minami Deutsch’s debut album is sated with an absolute love toward Krautrock and the driving Motorik beat. Minami Deutsch was formed by Kyotaro Miula (guitar, vocals, synthesizer) in Tokyo in 2014. Their sound is influenced by both their love for Krautrock legends such as Can and Neu!, and the band members being self-professed "repetition freaks" who heavily listen to minimal techno. The music proceeds straightforwardly with the Motorik beat (Hammer beat), devised by Klaus Dinger (Kraftwerk, Neu!), as its central axis. Humorous, yet bizarre Japanese lyrics are whispered over a hard, cold beat that is maniacally repeated, creating a pleasant ambience of electronic pulses drifting in space. Sharp guitar tones reminiscent of Michael Karoli (Can) occasionally explode into fuzz distortion, on the verge of collapse.

Resavoir & Matt Gold - Horizon (LP)Resavoir & Matt Gold - Horizon (LP)
Resavoir & Matt Gold - Horizon (LP)INTERNATIONAL ANTHEM RECORDING COMPANY
¥4,243

Imagine it’s late afternoon, you’re outside by the lake, and there’s sunlight on the water. This is the peaceful and contemplative scene that Matt Gold and Resavoir set on their collaborative LP Horizon. Across 10 lush and exploratory tracks, it’s the product of two Chicago-based musicians—Will Miller, the acclaimed trumpeter, composer, and producer who’s worked with SZA, Whitney, and more, and Gold, a seasoned multi-instrumentalist and accomplished guitarist—effortlessly combining their distinct sensibilities for something hypnotic and tangibly inviting. What started as a love letter to their shared admiration for ‘60s and ‘70s Brazilian music evolved into a dynamic and sprawling body of work. These sunny and expansive tunes are as immersive as they are endlessly replayable.

Both Miller and Gold attended Oberlin College’s Conservatory of Music together and in the years after graduating, they orbited each other around Chicago’s music communities. “We were showing up for each other as friends and taking an interest in each other's projects, noticing a lot of resonances and similarities working within in our music,” says Gold, who’s collaborated with artists like Makaya McCraven and Jamila Woods and stretched the bounds of jazz and Americana on solo albums Imagined Sky and Midnight Choir. “We had talked so much about eventually working together that it was almost like an ongoing bit at a certain point,” says Miller. Though they had known each other for over a decade, they first had their chance on “Inside Minds,” the breezy lead single on 2023’s Resavoir. While those sessions were remote, two had palpable chemistry.

It wasn’t until Miller left the touring band of the Chicago group Whitney in 2023 that their plans to make music together in person came to fruition. “When I first started Resavoir, I was chasing the desire to produce records and now that I had time to focus exclusively on that, Matt was the first person I called to come to the studio,” says Miller. The two had bonded over an admiration for the Brazilian guitarist Luis Bonfa and songwriter Milton Nascimento, especially the latter’s work with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, so they decided to use nylon string guitar as a starting point for these early sessions. “Canopy,” which opens Horizon, was the earliest track. Kicking off with bright acoustic chords, the song slowly unfurls into a slinking groove, samples, and fluttering leads from soprano saxophonist Tim Bennett.

As these initial experiments proved successful, Gold and Miller felt they could broaden the scope of their vision. “We were initially conceiving of it as this acoustic guitar driven record but eventually we wanted to frame it orchestrally and see how many shades and colors we can bring in around that sound,” says Gold. “Dewy” thrives within this orchestral palette of woozy synths, strings from Macie Stewart, Claire Chenette’s oboe, flautist Wills McKenna, and French horns from Lloyd Billingham. “We discovered that our multi-instrumentalist mentalities—using piano and bass, samplers, drum grooves, guitar ideas all as starting points— nurtured the broad orchestration across this record,” says Miller.

“The LP took about a year with on-and-off sessions,” says Miller. “The songs benefit from letting them ferment for a couple months, coming back to it, and seeing what sort of new flavors have developed.” Co-produced by Miller and Gold (and mixed by Dave Vettraino), Horizon proudly reflects the artists’ vast artistic community and musical network in Chicago and beyond. Along with Gold, Eddie Burns (Clairo), Peter Mannheim (Tony Glausi), and Carter Lang (SZA, Lil Nas X) provide drums and percussion throughout. On the dreamlike single “Diversey Beach,” New York songwriter Mei Semones lends vocals and along with her band members Noah Leong and Claudius Agrippa, collaborated on a mesmerizingly conversational string arrangement. “We wrote "Diversey Beach" on the coldest day of the year watching a blizzard coming down out of the window, where the sounds of the cars driving by sounded like waves crashing on a beach,” says Miller. “I sent it to Mei Semones, who I’ve been a fan of for a long time. She's absolutely incredible and it’s amazing what she did with it.”

Horizon is a testament to the feeling of endless possibilities that come from collaboration. It’s a remarkable synthesis of two artists who share musical community and an artist lineage but have carved their own paths in unique ways. Nowhere is this more evident than “Hazel Canyon,” which boasts Gold’s silky pedal steel and a subtly enveloping arrangement that evokes Erasmo Carlos. “Musically, we're always trying to capture a fleeting moment of infinite expanse, feeling the vastness of things while knowing they'll always change,” says Gold. “This record keeps the light reflecting on the water just a little longer -- our collaborative process running through the backbone of these songs and rippling out in so many beautiful directions..”

Daniel Villarreal - Lados B (Color Vinyl LP)
Daniel Villarreal - Lados B (Color Vinyl LP)INTERNATIONAL ANTHEM RECORDING COMPANY
¥4,558
On October 15th and 16th, 2020, drummer Daniel Villarreal was joined by guitarist Jeff Parker and bassist Anna Butterss for two afternoons of recording in the backyard of Chicali Outpost in Los Angeles. For all three musicians, it was the first ensemble recording session they’d done in-person since the pandemic locked the world down just seven months prior. Some choice moments from these sessions made it onto Villarreal’s critically-acclaimed 2022 album Panamá 77, but most of the music remained unreleased. Lados B is a deep dive into the high-level spontaneous music made by Villarreal, Parker, and Butterss across those two days in 2020. Villarreal is heard leading the group through various rhythmic modes and structures for improvisation – flow as informed by the Latin funk of Fania Records as it is by the otherworldly humanity trance of Brain Records – while Parker and Butterss draw on their extensive experience playing free together (as heard on Parker's recently-released Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, and the LA side of Makaya McCraven's 2018 LP Universal Beings) to build harmonic buoys for their spontaneous melodicism. The result is a beautifully vivid illustration of context, creativity, and collective composition from a particularly rich moment in history.

Representative Okinawan melodies “Haisai Ojisan” and “Toyonen Ondo” by Deigo Musume are reissued from original Marufuku Records sources.

“Haisai Ojisan,” an early masterpiece attributed to Shōkichi Kina at age 13, remains a quintessential Okinawan melody to this day, famously heard at Koshien Stadium. This release features not the widely known 1977 Philips version with its rock arrangement, but the original, simple, and fresh-sounding version released by Marufu Records in Okinawa, 1972. The B-side features “Hounen Ondo,” a 1976 hit by Deigo Musume, one of the leading family groups that shaped Okinawan music, also from the original Marufu Records master.
