Abner Jay - Man Walked On The Moon (LP)Mississippi Records
¥2,219
Abner Jay is an extraordinary one-man-band with one of the deepest emotive voices ever recorded. ¡ÈMan Walked On The Moon¡É features Abner material from two different periods. Side A opens with an early deep 1970¡Çs version of his signature song ¡ÈI¡Çm So Depressed,¡É which has never before been reissued on LP. The hit is followed by four previously unreleased songs from the same period - ¡ÈThe Royal Palm¡É (a classic train song), ¡ÈOld Black Joe,¡É ¡ÈI¡Çm A Hard Working Man,¡É and his paen to space travel, ¡ÈMan Walked On The Moon.¡É All are sung and played by Abner with his standard one man band set up - electric banjo, drums played by his feet, and harmonica. Side B of the LP features Abner¡Çs emotionally charged last recordings. These were made two months before Abner passed away, and here we nd him pensively playing acoustic guitar and singing. The songs are incredibly emotional and not for the faint of heart. These mournful tracks were previously released on a Mississippi 10¡É EP back in 2011 (¡ÈLast Ole Minstrel Man¡É) and is long out-of- print. This LP collects some of Abner¡Çs greatest work from across his career, all rare or previously unreleased classics! LP comes housed in an old school ¡Ètip on¡É jacket and includes a 20 page booklet with photos and a loving tribute to Abner Jay written by Jack Teague. All tracks fully licensed from Brandie Jay, Abner¡Çs daughter.
Patty Waters - Sings (CD)
Patty Waters - Sings (CD)ESP-DISK
¥1,886
A free jazz / avant-garde jazz vocalist from Iowa, known for his 60's work from the legendary avant-garde jazz label ESP Disk, he has also performed with Bill Evans, Charlie Mingus, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. Miracle singing voice ... Patty Waters, a female vocalist who makes the dark side of ESP and influences many writers, made her legendary debut in 1966 !! The next work "College Tour" is famous for avant-garde topics, but with this sexy calmness This work is also excellent because it has a glossy appearance and somehow dark comfort. Above all, the key to this work is probably the free jazz dark cover of "Black Is The Color Of My True Loves Hair", which was recorded at the end and the screams and strings are disturbed. A masterpiece filled with the charm of Patty Waters' "songs" ...!

In the previous work "Isted Serenade", the amplification was modest and the emphasis was on the deep acoustic sound, but in this work, his new frontier is heard with the electro sound that has been synthesized (synthesized). On the surface, that's the case, but his philosophy "isophonic" is still pierced in the core, and what is expressed through Young's unique conprovisation (composition and improvisational compound word) is "isophonic. His world that continues from "Bugiugi". Therefore, the degree of discipline of the sound is different from that of the electro guys there, and the density is able to withstand deep listening. Also, the sound pressure and facial expression of the sound was a problem until the end of completion, and his realism still living in Brooklyn is reflected in the tension of this aggressive and tingling sound.
Roland P. Young - Confluences (CD)
Roland P. Young - Confluences (CD)Em Records
¥2,420

The fourth release from Roland P. Young on EM Records sees him moving ever deeper, earthbound and rooted, yet simultaneously flying further out, expanding his exploration of untethered celestial realms. Recorded in 2014 following a move to Tel Aviv, the title Confluences hints at the blend of cultures and histories in his new homeland, and is reflected in the music, which shows a range of cultural influences, filtered through Young's unique sensibility and vision. This is a calm, spiritual set, evidencing an inner comfort that was less prevalent on his Brooklyn-era recordings. This is not to imply that RPY is no longer searching; this release brings to fruition the promise of earlier recordings such as Isophonic Boogie Woogie [EM1045CD/HJLP] and Istet Serenade [EM1087CD/LP], made complete via Young's multi-instrumental chops on sax, bass clarinet, kalimba and keyboards working in tandem with his rhythm and bass programming skills, his multi-track studio mastery and an ever-evolving sense of musical form and drama. The confluences of cultures are of course swirling throughout this release, but also the confluences, as noted above, of the earthy and the celestial, as well as the temporal confluences of the past, present and future. Perhaps more than any of his previous releases, Confluences realizes Young's description of his own work as "Afro spiritual minimal electronic space music". Available on CD and LP, this release is the next stage of Roland P. Young's never-ending voyage. Get on board!

The KlapYaHandz label, a long-running labour of love helmed by Sok Visal, has been at the forefront of a revitalization of contemporary Cambodian culture since the beginning of the 21st century; it was the very first independent hip hop label in Cambodia, nurturing an ecosystem of rappers, producers and engineers, male and female, fusing hard-hitting Khmer-language hip hop rhymes with samples of Khmer traditional music and Golden Age hits, propelled by relentless grooves. Returning to his Cambodian homeland after a youth spent absorbing hip hop in France and the U.S., Visal’s energy and focus inspired a new musical generation; his love of Cambodian music as well as hip hop melded with his ear for jazz, funk and soul, and led to the creation of some very cool music from the artists he brought to his label. The 12 tracks on this CD are the very finest from the first decade of the KlapYaHandz galaxy. Hip hop, yes, but very definitely Cambodian hip hop, with traditional and Golden Age musical elements very prominent. Very cool, very Cambodian, very cosmopolitan, and very contemporary, but the past is always present, a love of musical history lighting the way forward.
