Albert Ayler - Spiritual Unity (LP)
Albert Ayler - Spiritual Unity (LP)ESP-DISK
¥4,143
180 gram virgin vinyl, with original artwork restored. Spiritual Unity, recorded on July 10, 1964, is the album that made Albert Ayler and ESP-Disk' famous (or, in some people's eyes/ears, infamous). Mr. Ayler had already recorded in Europe and, in February '64, in New York, but this was the first album on which neither he nor his collaborators held back. It was also ESP's first jazz recording. Spiritual Unity presented a new improvisation paradigm: looser structure, less regard for standard pitch, and no obligation to present a regular beat. Ayler's sound was unprecedented, much rawer than any other jazz of the time. Sometimes it was expressed in squalls of untempered sound, sometimes in outbursts of poignant spontaneous melody. Meanwhile, under and around the leader's unfettered self-expressions, bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Sunny Murray reinvented the roles of their instruments.

Fifty years later, it is still fresh and exciting. Lowell Davidson was a jazz musician who died at the young age of 49, though he played piano, drums, bass, and reeds. The owner of ESP-Disk, Bernard Stollman, recommended Ornette Coleman to join the band, even though he had never heard him play before, as he was a student at Harvard University at the time. Gary Peacock on bass, Milford Graves on percussion, and a trio of other musicians, this 1965 self-titled album has been reissued on vinyl for the 21st year. Gary Peacock on bass, Milford Graves on percussion, and Davidson as pianist seem to form a symbiotic relationship, and Davidson's excellent harmonic sense is beautifully reflected in one of the unparalleled masterpieces in the history of free jazz. This is a piece that was also reissued on CD in Japan. Limited edition of 500 copies.

In the Spring of 1966, ESP was given a grant by the New York State Council on the Arts, to tour the five colleges in the state with music departments. Artists for this tour included the Sun Ra Arkestra, Burton Greene, Patty Waters, Giuseppi Logan and Ran Blake. Accompanied by an all star backup group from among the participants, Patty's performances resulted in the album, "College Tour", her second recording for ESP-Disk'. The album expands upon the vocal acrobatics that were heard on her first recording, "Sings". "College Tour" won second place for Vocal Recording in Jazz and Pop Magazine in 1970.

Patty Waters is internationally recognized as one of the first major avant-garde vocalists. Her ESP-Disk' recordings cemented her reputation as a vocal innovator, and according to liner notes and public opinion, one whose influence extended beyond jazz to Yoko Ono and Diamanda Galas.

A free jazz / avant-garde jazz vocalist from Iowa, known for his 60's work from the legendary avant-garde jazz label ESP Disk, he has also performed with Bill Evans, Charlie Mingus, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. Miracle singing voice ... Patty Waters, a female vocalist who makes the dark side of ESP and influences many writers, made her legendary debut in 1966 !! The next work "College Tour" is famous for avant-garde topics, but with this sexy calmness This work is also excellent because it has a glossy appearance and somehow dark comfort. Above all, the key to this work is probably the free jazz dark cover of "Black Is The Color Of My True Loves Hair", which was recorded at the end and the screams and strings are disturbed. A masterpiece filled with the charm of Patty Waters' "songs" ...!
Timothy Leary - Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out (CD)
Timothy Leary - Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out (CD)ESP-DISK
¥2,118
This CD release of Dr. Leary's Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out is the first ever reissue of the ESP-Disk' vinyl edition originally released in 1966. This unadorned spoken word recording of the '60s icon, Timothy Leary ("the most dangerous man alive"), was recorded at the famous Millbrook, New York estate just before his famous residency was ended by repeated raids and arrests by G. Gordon Liddy. Though the album title, Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out, became a clichéd rallying cry for a whole generation, it was presented to the public here for the first time. In this document he presents his ideas on drugs, current events and cultural phenomena, with recollections of earlier experiences and experiments; all delivered in a straight ahead, quiet manner even though the content is downright subversive and confrontational. An absolute must for anyone interested in the 1960s or countercultural thinking of any era. First reissue of the ESP-Disk' vinyl edition originally released in 1966. Manufactured in the US by the original label. Digitally re-mastered; digipak format.
