Music from Memory is delighted to announce the forthcoming release of Oast by Kommune, a double LP of deep, hypnotic ambient techno that captures a fleeting but profound moment in electronic music history. Formed by George Thompson, Kyle Martin and Jonathan Nash, Kommune were active between 2014-2015, emerging organically from the intertwined musical journeys of three close friends living near each other in North London. At the time of Kommune's formation, Nash and Martin had recently completed their debut album as Land Of Light, while Thompson (aka Black Merlin) was putting the finishing touches to his debut album Hipnotik Tradisi and also working with Martin as part of the duo Spectral Empire. Sharing equipment and ideas, Kommune served as a creative outlet for exploring analogue machine music in an improvisational context, with sessions in their North London studios leading to a handful of memorable gigs at venues including Hamburg's legendary Golden Pudel and London's LN-CC.

This fleeting chapter of musical history may well have gone entirely undocumented had it not been for the fortuitous decision to meet up for a recording session in October 2014. Filling a car with their machines, the trio drove to a converted barn in the south of England, proceeded to set up, settle in and hit the record button. Over the course of two days, fuelled by the experiences of recent performances, they immersed themselves in the machines, crafting subtly evolving, long-form compositions with an enchanting balance and flow.

Across the four long-form compositions that make up Oast, the trio summons barely controllable scrapes, acid-like bubbles, and bleeps from their machines, leaning on dub mixing techniques to give the tracks a sense of depth, dynamism and organic ambience. Mastery of the TR-808 drum machine is central, with remarkably nuanced drum programming imparting a hypnotic rhythm to the work, allowing other elements to emerge and unfold at a beautifully measured tempo.

Recorded entirely live and improvised without any overdubs, Oast offers a profound journey into minimalist electronic music while serving as a tribute to friendship, curiosity, and the spirit of experimentation. The album stands as testament to the magic that can occur when talented musicians come together in the right place at the right time, creating something that transcends the sum of its parts. Each member would continue to develop their individual projects following Kommune's dissolution, but Oast remains a unique document of their collaborative chemistry and shared vision for electronic music that bridges the gap between ambient meditation and dancefloor hypnosis.

Oast will be released on LP and digitally on July 25th 2025 via Music From Memory, with sleeve art and design by Michael Willis.

The third drop into the Poorly Knit ocean, sees Bruce washed ashore with three silted and barnacled explorations into dub techno, ambient and beyond.

Seizing the microphone for the first time since his sophomore album Not Ready For Love, Bruce weaves a seductive siren song with Golden Water Queen, treading sweet nothings into the bubbling abyss. Sinking further into the deep, The Hand fizzes and froths at the fringes of nothingness, born from the wishing of a softer and more insidious soundtrack to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. Then finally the waves are parted with DHam’s Jam, bobbing along 8 minutes of bouncing kick and prancing percussion, pulling you with peaceful buoyancy along the dancefloor, into “the zone.”

With a continued emphasis on the importance of physical medium within dance music, the 12” is pressed with eco-friendly “Eco-Mix” reground PVC and sleeved in DIY lino printed sleeves.

Recorded just a few months ago, Pub's latest EP heads into deeper, darker territory, balancing the Glasgow-based veteran's hazed cosmic arpeggios with Gescom-like squelches and brassy, detuned analog pads.

Pub's been on a tear recently; since reissuing his classic catalog (including the perennial fave 'Summer' and the underrate 'Do You Regret Pantomime?'), he's been surprisingly active, releasing his first album of new tunes in over a decade, 'Process the Wise', just last year. 'Mamor' continues the thought, apparently foreshadowing not just a series of shows ("in obscure locations" no less) but more brand new material. It's not a big departure, but that's for the best. 'Rain For Rest' is a 'Summer' style balearic slow burner at first, with tempered arpeggios trapped behind a reclining, slowed-down 4/4, but give it time and it blots into a sci-fi nightmare, introducing 'Chiastic Slide' airlock percussion and gloopy, acid-washed Skam synths.

'Mi Cielo' works like a crack of sunlight then, matching Pub's jaunty melodic sequences with major key pads, echoes and balmy chimes, and on the lengthy closer 'Groundhed', his cheeky synth melodies are washed into a vortex and pitched into melted Philip Glass-esque orchestral bliss.

OKTEMBER is the second EP release under Wolfgang Voigt’s mythical GAS project (it follows "Modern“ on Profan, 1995). The 2 compositions were originally released in 1999 on Mille Plateaux, and then reissued partially in 2016 on GAS “BOX”. OKTEMBER is finally released on Voigt's own label KOMPAKT, pressed on 180 gram vinyl in its original artwork.

This reissue features “Tal ‘90“ (instead of the original A side) – a predecessor to the GAS project originally recorded in 1990 under the alias TAL, it was released as a part of the Pop Ambient 2002 collection. With its sampled strings, horns and guitars, "Tal 90” soundtracks a more uplifting side to what is typically accustomed to being the sound of GAS. The title track “Oktember” is a dense, hypnotic affair that conjures a unique vision of dub techno that few have been able to replicate.

Echocord welcomes Mike Schommer onto its roster with hiz ‘Heirloom Signal’, featuring remixes from Mathimidori, TM Shuffle and Another Channel.

Mike Schommer co-founded Deepchord Records alongside Rod Modell and was associated with the label from 2000-2003, considered by many to be at the forefront of the second wave of dub techno in the early 2000’s following on from the legacy left by Basic Channel in the 90’s. Since then, Mike Schommer has gone out to unveil an impressive back catalogue of material beyond his own such as Steve O’Sullivan’s Mosaic, Greyscale, Lempuyang and Kontakt Records. Here the musical story continues with a new project for the equally beloved dub techno powerhouse, Echocord.

Opening is ‘Violet’s Dream’, a dropped tempo dub excursion employing an off-kilter, swaying rhythm section, pulsing subs, spiralling echoes and spring reverberations, Mariner’s Dub follows and employs broken percussion alongside hazy atmospherics and expansive stab textures before ‘Moon Serpent’ concludes the original material on the A-side, embracing a more loop-led feel with choppy stab sequences, robust 4/4 drums and resonant flutters.

The ’ Another Channel Version’ of ‘Violet’s Dream’ kicks off the B-Side, diving deep into a true roots reggae aesthetic with organic percussion and heavy doses of bottom end intertwined with the original elements. Mathimidori’s ‘Sensuikan Remix’ of ‘Mariner’s Dub’ then delves back into raw dance floor energy before TM Shuffle’s interpretation of ‘Moon Serpent’ rounds out the EP on a raw, reduced tip with stripped down drums and intricately processed stab lines.

Copenhagen’s Echocord returns this September with the ‘Invincible Nature’ EP by Altone,backed by a remix from Thomas Fehlmann and Another Channel. Atone is the guise of Tokyo’s Yuki Takasaki, one of the leading figures of the genre out of Japan with releases on the likes of Greyscale, Lempuyang, Vuo, Æ Recordings, Primary [colours] and

many more. His distinctive twist on Dub Techno has earned him accolades worldwide within the underground and here he joins the roster of the esteemed Echocord, the Kenneth Christiansen helmed label that’s been at the forefront of Dub Techno for more than two decades now. The original mix of ‘Naturally Unnatural’ opens, showcasing Altone’s unique style via subtly nuanced chord flutters, expansive reverberations, pulsating low end tones and ever unfolding,

subtly unfurling feel. The ‘Naturally Flowing Thomas Fehlmann Remix’ follows, the Swiss sonic wizard and former member of the legendary The Orb among many other projects delivers deep, throbbing subs and glitched out synth modulations intertwined with fragments of the original composition.

‘Unnaturally Balanced’ then opens the B-Side with Altone diving deeper into dub realms courtesy of ever alternating, billowing dub echoes and a raw, reduced rhythm section. The ‘Another Channel Version’ of ‘Unnaturally Balanced’ then rounds out the EP, embracing a more classic dub techno aesthetic as crunchy drums, swirling atmospherics and spaced out echoes ebb and flow amongst one another across the six and half minute duration.

Known as an early member of Napalm Death and later a pioneer of industrial and dub’s deepest realms with Scorn and Lull, Mick Harris returns with a long-awaited new album, issued on vinyl by U.S. stronghold L.I.E.S.—a bastion of industrial and raw techno. Across nine tracks, Harris sculpts an abyssal soundworld where cavernous bass pressure and grainy textures descend like a dive into the deep sea. Delay and reverb loop like chisels carving stone, layering dub’s decay with the grit of noise to construct shadow-filled spaces. Probing the very limits of lightless zones, this work stands as a weighty statement at the outermost edge of industrial dub.

‘Sun & Smoke’ is originally a 2-hour self-produced mix uploaded to Youtube and Soundcloud in 2018 by Greek artist, Theef. Consisting of unreleased productions, the set was uploaded as a safe space, with zero expectations of it ever gaining attention or release. After many late-night listening sessions, ASIP contacted Theef to discuss how a release might come to life. Originally consisting of 21 tracks in total –with two subsequently released on Morevi Records in 2022– ASIP had the honor of curating and sequencing an album from the remaining 19 unreleased productions, finally landing on those that best represented the intention of the original mix and the feelings it evoked upon those first moments of discovery. The appeal of Sun & Smoke can be found in its purity. Built with no intention or audience in mind, the album traverses core elements of deep techno, trance, and downtempo. Progressive atmosphere building, addictive underlying grooves, and expansive moments of euphoria; as a mixtape, Sun & Smoke is a zero-visibility haze of eyes-closed, body-moving, forward momentum. As an album, each track is now allowed the space to deliver on its own defining atmosphere. From the ambient beginnings of Sky Textures and the title track, Sun & Smoke, to the electro tinges of Primal Age, and the metallic swirls and glistening synths in Approaching Stars, the parts now have the chance to become greater than the sum of its original whole.
