In 1981, Brenda Ray / Naffi Sandwich released the sweetly yearning “D’Ya Hear Me!”. The song is now considered a post-punk classic, and here we have a warm digi-reggae version sung by Kyoto composer/producer/vocalist NTsKI (“Natsuki”), with backing tracks performed, recorded and mixed by Osaka-based producer/guitarist 7FO (“nana f o”). Also on this release are a karaoke version, plus two remixes, the first a dancehall-flavoured version by Bim One Production, a Tokyo electro-reggae production duo. The second mix is from Nagoya-based electronic producer CVN, who provides a harder version. This revisioning of a much-loved classic is available on CD, 10-inch vinyl and digital.

NTsKi. Nom de musique of Japan-based vocalist/songwriter/producer; pronounced n-t-s-k-i. "Calla" is her 2nd album, a unified statement of her musical vision at this point in her development, with all-new songs melding her breathy and intimate voice, singing in Japanese and English, with organic acoustic sounds and distinctive electronic colors. NTsKi possesses a charming melodic gift as well as a distinctive production style, giving "Calla" a cohesion and subtle momentum, with relaxed tempos, interesting arrangements and intriguing melodies fusing into a focused musical statement that is refreshing, charming and forward-looking, underpinned by a sense of wistfulness, nostalgia and melancholy. As with her 2021 "Orca" release, co-released on EM Records and Orange Milk, NTsKi is joined by engineer Illicit Tsuboi and British musician/producer Dan Shutt. The songs here are lovely, concise gems, warmly glowing, gently sparkling, evocative and moving. Available on LP and DL, with a Japanese and English lyric sheet. Cover art drawing: Ellen Thomas.

NTsKi is a Kyoto-based artist and musician. She began making music while living in the UK and began working in earnest in 2017 after returning to Japan. She works seamlessly to create tracks with gentle but somewhat eerie vocals and a mixture of diverse musicality. In 2021, she was selected by Bijutsu Techo as one of the newcomer artists who will open up the 2020s. Her collaboration with 7FO, released through EM Records, was selected as one of the best of the year by Shintaro Sakamoto. In addition to her self-produced works, she has participated in the works of Giant Claw, CVN, Shokuhin Matsuri a.k.a foodman, Dengaryu, KM, etc., and has released through overseas labels including TAR and Orange Milk. Also, she has contributed music to the Japan Pavilion hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry at SXSW 2019, where Yoichi Ochiai was the general director, virtual singer te'resa, and an Australian bag brand. On August 6th, 2021, her debut album "Orca" will be released via Orange Milk / EM Records.

Pailin Pawn Phibun is a treasured child of Isan music tycoon Surin Pakshiri and an orthodox Morlam singer who followed Ankanan Kunchai. In the world's first best compilation album, a collection of famous performances from the latter half of the 70s to the beginning of the 80s during the heyday by the name combination with Paksiri. Although his ability and popularity were also popular, there were not many recordings (→ Paksiri hated crude overproduction), and most of them were released as singles, so the sound source value of this work is quite high. Almost all songs will be reissued on CD for the first time in the world.
The title song "Lamb Chrome Tun (Phantom White Bird)" is the theme song of the oversized hit movie "Monrack Menam Mu" (1978), which features Isaan music, and is her representative song. It is a masterpiece with the saying that the Thai song giant Waiphot Phetsuphant, who was impressed by this, begged Paksiri to make a cover.
Surin Paksiri, who has always brought a new twist to Isan music, is a super-experimental work because Pailin is a singer of the time when he was the sharpest. Lamb Prune, Lamb Tanwai, Luke Tung Isaan, etc. are all quirky recordings, and are full of deep and heavy works such as polyrhythmic songs reminiscent of African music and songs of tribal dance music itself. In Thai music, which tends to be spotlighted only on the singer's song and appearance, there are famous songs that should be talked about in terms of sound as well as the famous producer / arranger work in Japan, the United States and Europe. A unique music mor lam that is neither funk, jazz, rock nor club music! The more you know about Thai music, the more you will understand its brilliant speciality. Soi48 and M are proud to send you this special piece!
----------------------------
* Note "Mor lam": Mo is a master, and ram is a performing art that speaks with intonation in the tone. In other words, it is a "master of narrative" and is a name that refers to both the singer and the performing arts. Mor lam is not a "song". Isan (Northeastern Thailand) is the home.

After dying at the age of 30 in 1992, Pumpuang, who is worshiped as a "song sacred" in Thailand, has a lot of gossip in his life where success and misery are extremely mixed, but in terms of music, why he could become the queen of Luk Thung, etc. In fact, there are few opportunities to be introduced from the front. This time, based on the information we interviewed from multiple parties, we will cut into the wonderfulness and reality of Pun's music.
Whether you've been listening to Thai music-world music for a long time, or you're interested in Thai music but don't know what to listen to, it's one of the big daffodils. The Japanese translation of the poem is posted this time as well, so you can understand the world of Pumpuang Duangjan's songs perfectly! Binding: Shinsuke Takagi (Soi48).

An anthology of the musical works of Australian outsider poet Pip Proud, also known as "Syd Barrett on the other side of the globe," under the supervision of his biographer, Professor David Nichols. All songs first appeared in Japan!
He has a quiet voice with a tangled tongue, and his vocal range is less than half an octave. (Omitted) A complete understanding of the childhood sensibilities shown in these songs is the most extraordinary feature of his work. "(From commentary) ... Proud is unprecedented in Australia. At that time, the industry was awkward, and it wasn't even described as a "pioneer" in that even followers weren't established, and it was just an "outsider" who was isolated from the front and back. Syd Barrett and Daniel Johnston have a strong personality that once you hear it, you will never leave your mind.
This work is an anthology selected from the phantom private 1st album produced in the 1960s, 2 albums released in majors, and treasured recordings in the early 70s, and the latest remaster based on the sound source source generated from the master tape. Was given. In addition, with the cooperation of Professor Nichols, an English poem that should be called "Pip" was published as a text for the first time in the world based on a draft handwritten by the writer (→ This English poem alone is of great value!). The CD version adds 3 bonus songs.

The fourth release from Roland P. Young on EM Records sees him moving ever deeper, earthbound and rooted, yet simultaneously flying further out, expanding his exploration of untethered celestial realms. Recorded in 2014 following a move to Tel Aviv, the title Confluences hints at the blend of cultures and histories in his new homeland, and is reflected in the music, which shows a range of cultural influences, filtered through Young's unique sensibility and vision. This is a calm, spiritual set, evidencing an inner comfort that was less prevalent on his Brooklyn-era recordings. This is not to imply that RPY is no longer searching; this release brings to fruition the promise of earlier recordings such as Isophonic Boogie Woogie [EM1045CD/HJLP] and Istet Serenade [EM1087CD/LP], made complete via Young's multi-instrumental chops on sax, bass clarinet, kalimba and keyboards working in tandem with his rhythm and bass programming skills, his multi-track studio mastery and an ever-evolving sense of musical form and drama. The confluences of cultures are of course swirling throughout this release, but also the confluences, as noted above, of the earthy and the celestial, as well as the temporal confluences of the past, present and future. Perhaps more than any of his previous releases, Confluences realizes Young's description of his own work as "Afro spiritual minimal electronic space music". Available on CD and LP, this release is the next stage of Roland P. Young's never-ending voyage. Get on board!

"Istet Serenade" is foray into the area of music space that represents the core of Roland's sound philosophy, Isophonics. The theory of composed improvisation of stillness in the fluidity of constant change. The thingness of actualized sound in the nothingness of acoustic evaporation and recreation from the source of the indwelling presence. This occurs at a speed which defies conscious comprehension but which reveals abundant spiritual revelatory aspects.
It requires a state of emersion and a freedom to reach toward technical trust and semiconscious execution of the revealed composition. Upon returning to a conscious state one hears what was created as though it is being presented. The thought then thinks about what was thought and executed as a comprovisation of point instant mixed and remixed sound devices: Breath, Posture, Devotion, Bass Clarinet, Soprano G and Bb Clarinets and Saxophone, Kalimba, Native American Flutes, Electronic Accoutrements, Voice, Percussion, Mac Book, Family, Pen, Pencil and the One.
"The 10 pieces were chosen from 55 comprovisations created over the past year. My Travels to and playing in the atmospheres of Israel, Prague, Rome, London, Paris, Istanbul and Santa Fe, New Mexico combined with my formative years in Kansas City, Missouri then my years in the Bay Area of Northern California and my current residence in Brooklyn, New York inform my music with ever expanding inspirations and creative possibilities.Istet Serenade is a slice of the possible."
This is a sound that is thusly described as spaced acid drones of intense acoustic chill, embracing electronic, ambient, world, avant garde, cosmic, free and chamber jazz music.

What have you been doing for 25 years! Don't rush in. Sheriff Lind has been devoting himself to reggae with the Southern Hemisphere soundmen, but in the last 20 years, only a few songs have been released on the compilation CD. The whole picture was sealed in the hall and mysterious, but the sheriff was on the lookout all the time!
This surprising new 2nd album can be called a "special collection" (Note 2) compiled from the numerous dubs (Note 1) that Sheriff Lind has played with sound so far. This fully field-specific massive bass sound source was selected for the album by West Japan's proud sound system "Touch the Sky" crew, High-C, and an elite track maker / engineer pursuing reggae dub. Ruv Bytes, our Takuto Kuratani. In addition, M's first genuine dance hall specification that Mr. Kuratani will master! A heavyweight special album with a single dub rhythm that appeals to the stubborn roots lovers from the original generation to the digital / nu roots generation!

A pure Australian reggae enthusiast who doesn't feel like a jar. Echo and bass are the most important factors in the bedroom dub wise of Home Record Rockers. It's really cool. I love.
‥‥ Masaya Hayashi (Rock-A-Shacka / Pirates Choice)
King Tubby and Mad Professor's favorite reggae enthusiast, Sheriff Lind, anthony Meiher, infused deep and hot roots reggae dub love into a heavy metal dub masterpiece, "Ten dubs that rocked the world." Is repressed for the first time in 8 years.
This album was produced with the support of the experimental music group of Australia, Loop Orchestra and Severed Heads, which was recorded and experimented from the beginning to the middle of the 1980s. Not only roots reggae but also post-punk / industrial. Presenting a world that is deeply linked to the field of electronic music (listeners can understand it).
The original is a phantom album that only sold 250 copies at the time of its release.
A really popping astringent electric bass and a mixing style that even psychedelic, heavy metal dub wise that promotes a deep inner trip that is different from Jamaican and UK.
The CD version bonus is totally replaced with the 2005 version. Includes unreleased songs and a phantom cassette tape work by Sheriff Lind's early unit.

Ultra-positive consciousness from Afro-Caribbean London, circa 1979. Members of the legendary 20th Century Steel Band (one of Grand Master Flash's favourites) sailing Trinidad-wise over gratifyingly intricate African ritual rhythms. Strong vocals compliment reggae, funk, disco and soul influences to form a relentless groove machine.
Steel an' Skin, a unit composed of young nightclub musicians born in Ghana, Nigeria, St. Kitts, Trinidad and the U.K., who once performed with Ginger Johnson's Afrikan Drummers, a highlife band under the tutelage of the late Ginger Johnson and played at Johnson's Iroko Country Club in Hampstead, London. Steel an' Skin began activities giving concerts and workshops in London schools, expanding nationwide to schools, prisons, psychiatric hospitals and summer festivals, including the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival. The group combined an admirably brave, open and unironic mix of musical forms with community outreach, non-cynical and untainted by preachiness or "social work." Good feelings from good hearts.
This EM reissue consists of Steel an' Skin's 1979 debut 12 inch single "Reggae is Here Once Again", featuring "Afro Punk Reggae (Dub)", a fine disco-dub workout, plus some tracks from their 1984 recordings, as well as one unissued track.
